Olfactory receptors are often related to the nose and play a significant role in detecting and binding to airborne scent molecules that enter the nasal passage.
These are often found in the epithelium lining of the nasal roof.
These are also examples of chemoreceptors, proteins, or complexes of proteins that detect volatile chemicals (olfaction).
The function of olfactory receptors:
These receptors detect the odour molecules and get activated.
Such activated receptors in the olfactory neurons undergo a series of signal transduction cascades and create a nerve impulse that is transmitted to the brain.
