  2. Spherical, loosely packed, thin-walled cells with large vacuoles.
  3. Intercellular airspaces between cells.

Functions of parenchyma tissue:

  1. The main function of parenchyma tissue is the storage of food.
  2. In xerophytes, it helps in the storage of water.
  3. Parenchyma with abundant chloroplasts is called chlorenchyma and the function of chlorenchyma is photosynthesis.
  4. Mesophyll leaves and pouter cortex of green stem are made of chlorenchyma
  5. They can divide to form more specialized cells.
  6. Intercellular air spaces allow gaseous exchange.
  7. The Turgidity of these cells can provide support in the herbaceous plants.
