What is the function of RNA Primer during DNA Replication?

RNA primers are short nucleotide sequences that are needed to initiate replication. During initiation, primers are added on both the separated strands of DNA leaving 3'OH free for the addition of new nucleotides (polymerisation) for elongation, to form two new strands of DNA.
