What is the function of sebum?
Keeps skin from drying and chapping
Sebaceous glands secrete an oily secretion called sebum. Sebum helps in maintaining the moisture level of the skin and makes the skin supple. In cold conditions, lower secretion of sebum makes the skin dry and rough while in hot and humid conditions oversecretion of sebum makes the skin oily. Oversecretion and accumulation of sebum can also lead to pimples, acne and blackheads.
