The important functions of tapetum during the microsporogenesis are;
The primary function of tapetum is the nourishment of pollen grains during microsporogenesis.
It also plays an important role during the formation of pollen wall (exine).
The amoeboid tapetum produces the callase enzyme which degrades the callose wall of the microspore tetrad.Thereby separating the pollen tetrad into individual pollen grains.
The protein responsible for recognising the compatibility of the pistil is also contributed by the tapetum to the pollen wall.
Some of the specific proteins of the pollen wall produced by the tapetum causes pollen allergy.
