Solution
Function of the H+ Ion in ATP Synthesis
ATP is produced during photosynthesis by a pigment called ATP synthase.
This process occurs during chemiosmosis which means moving the ions to the other side of the membrane because of which an electrochemical gradient is created.
The F1 subunit of the ATP synthase complex couples with the transmembrane channel (F0) of ATP synthase, allowing the proton to diffuse back down the electrochemical gradient in the mitochondrial matrix.
In the similar process H+ ions pass through the biological membrane for producing the 2 ATP’s.
