Synergids are a part of the egg apparatus in flowering plants. The synergid cells are located in the female gametophyte and are essential for angiosperm reproduction. A pollen tube grows into one of the synergid cell, rupture and releases the sperm cells during fertilization. The synergid cell wall forming a thick structure at the micropylar end and it is called filiform apparatus. Its function is to guide the entry of pollen tube and release of sperm cells.
