Trypsin is a proteolytic enzyme that is commonly known as proteinase.
The enzyme is synthesized by the pancreas in an inactive form i.e., trypsinogen.
This inactive precursor is secreted into the small intestine where it is converted into activated form i.e. trypsin with the help of enzyme enterokinase.
Its function is to break down proteins into smaller peptides in the duodenum of the small intestine.
It helps in digesting dietary protein by breaking the chain of amino acids.
It also activates the other zymogens or proenzymes present in pancreatic juice.
