Open in App
Solution

Dear Umadevi,

While blood cells are also known as the leucocytes. Various types of leucocytes are neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes and monocytes. Monocytes and neutrophils are phagocytes (i.e they digest the foreign cells); eosinophils resist infections; basophils are involved in inflammatory reaction. Lymphocytes are responsible for immune responses. In other words, WBC’s are involved in the immune function of the body. WBC’s protect the body against infectious disease as well as invaders. They engulf the foreign particles or invaders by phagocytosis. They originate from the bone marrow.
