Solution

Mature worm:

  1. Earthworms have long cylindrical bodies.
  2. The body is divided into short segments which are similar.
  3. The segments 14-16 are covered by a prominent dark band of glandular tissue called clitellum.
  4. Thus, the body is divisible into three prominent regions – preclitellar, clitellar, and postclitellar segments.
  5. Mature sperm and egg cells and nutritive fluid are deposited in cocoons produced by the gland cells of the clitellum.
