When an electric current flows through a wire, the wire gets heated. It is the heating effect of current.
Electrical appliances where this principle is used are electric iron, electric heater, electric bulbs etc. Inside these appliances there is a coil of wire called 'heating element' which gets heated when electric current is passed through it.
The heating element in the electric bulb is called filament which gives off heat and light when electric current is passed through it.
