Valency is the ability of the elements to form bonds.
Sulphur has atomic number 16 which means it has six valence electrons to complete its octet it needs two electrons. So it has a valency of 2.
Sulphur has a vacant d orbital due to which the paired electrons jump into the d orbital and become unpaired. Due to this Sulphur has six unpaired electrons which can form a covalent bond.
Thus we can say Sulphur has the highest valency which is 6.
There are many compounds of Sulphur in which Sulphur has six valencies.
Example- Sulphurhexafluoride , Sulphur trioxide etc.
