What is the idea of making double glazed glass windows in cold areas with air trapped in between the 2 glasses?

Solution

Air is a bad conductor of heat. It does not let heat pass through. So in cold areas, windows are made using double-glazed glass with air trapped so that the house remains warm and we get saved from extreme cold.
