What is the impact of garbage on the environment?

A good amount of garbage is generated each day in the cities which may consist of glass bottles, crockery, plastic containers, polythene and other packing materials automobile spares, machines, cycle parts, construction wastes, sludge, dead animal skeletons, crop residues, etc. These clog drains, do not look aesthetic, may be eaten mistakenly by animals, and pile up at public places and obstruct daily life. Heavy metals from garbage may leach into the soil and cause ground water pollution. Garbage may stink giving bad odour and fumes all around the area. Most of the garbage is non-biodegradable and causes immense harm to the environment.
