What is the importance of agriculture in the Indian economy?

(i) Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy. Two-thirds of its population is engaged in agricultural activities.
(ii) Agriculture is a Primary activity, which produces most of the food that we consume. It also produces raw materials for various agro based industries.
(iii) Some agricultural products like tea, coffee, spices etc. are also exported and help to earn foreign exchange.
