Question

What is the importance of the following processes occurring during photosynthesis in plant.
1. Emission of electrons from chlorophyll.
2. Photolysis of water.

Solution

  1. The emission of electrons from chlorophyll takes place by the absorption of light through chlorophyll, the electron emitted is then carried through many different electron carriers and then these electrons are further used in the photolysis of water and also releases ATP and NADH.
  2. Photolysis of water is the process of breakdown of the water molecule into hydrogen and oxygen, this process occurs due to the absorption of light in the light reaction.
