Question

What is the importance of the universal law of gravitation?

Open in App
Solution

The universal law of gravitation:

  1. According to Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation, each element in the cosmos attracts every other particle with a force that is directly proportional to the product of the masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

F=GmMd2

Where, F is the force of the gravitational, G is the gravitational constant, M is the mass of the first object, m is the mass of the second object, and, d is the distance between the first and second object.

The importance of the universal law of gravitation:

  1. We could compute the gravitational attraction of the planets in the cosmos.
  2. It also explains the phenomena of rainfall, snowfall, and the flow of water in rivers on the earth.
  3. It explains the motion of planets around the sun, the motion of the moon around the earth, and the motion of artificial satellites around the earth.
