  2. It is present in the cytoplasm of the cell.
  3. It possesses a double-membrane covering: the inner membrane and the outer membrane.
  4. The outer membrane is porous and the inner one has folds having a large surface area.
  5. These folds are named cristae.
  6. The inner cavity of the mitochondria is filled with a gel-like matrix that contains circular DNA, phosphate granules, few small-sized ribosomes.
