Question

What is the law of conservation of energy? Explain with example.

Open in App
Solution

Law of conservation of energy

  1. Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed, it can only be changed from one state to another.
  2. The total energy of an isolated system remains constant.

Example for the law of conservation of energy.

  1. When a ball is falling from a particular height, the height of the body reduces when the ball comes down.
  2. The potential energy of the ball is also reduced with height.
  3. As moving down, the velocity of the ball will be increasing.
  4. The kinetic energy of a body will increase with velocity.
  5. In this case, the decrease in potential energy is getting converted into kinetic energy.
  6. Hence, the total energy of the ball is conserved.
