Solution: The State Legislative Council, or Vidhan Parishad, is the upper house in those states of India that have a bicameral state legislature; the lower house being the State Legislative Assembly. It is a permanent house. Members of this house, known as MLCs, are elected for six years after every two years one-third of its members retire. To contest in this house, a person should be a citizen of India and above 30 years of age.
The composition of Andhra Pradesh’s legislative Council are as follows:-
It consists of 90 members.
Composition
1. 30 members (1/3) are elected by the MLA’s.
2. 30 members (1/3) are elected by the members who were elected to
3. Local Bodies like panchayats and municipalities.
4. 7 or 8 members (1/12) are elected from Graduates.
5. 7 or 8 members (1/12) are elected from Teachers.
6. 15 members (1/6) are nominated by the Governor.
