What is the length of the longest rod that can be fitted in a cubical room of side 4 metres.

Solution

The diagonal in the room floor would be sqrt(32) [32 being 4 squared plus 4 squared).

The length from lower corner to opposite top corner would then be sqrt ( 16 + 32 ); so sqrt(48).

Just under 7 metres then.
