Question

what is the location of the gene for hemophilia

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

There are two major types of hemophilia :
1.Hemophilia A (also known as classic hemophilia or factor VIII deficiency) and
2.Hemophilia B (also known as Christmas disease or factor IX deficiency).

Hemophilia A and hemophilia B are inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern. The genes associated with these conditions are located on the X chromosome, which is one of the two sex chromosomes.
Although the two types have very similar signs and symptoms, they are caused by mutations in different genes.
Changes in the F8 gene are responsible for hemophilia A, while mutations in the F9 gene causes hemophilia B.

Regards.
