Loss of heterozygosity:

  1. It is a phenomenon in which one of a number of rare events can cause a cell originally heterozygous for a tumour-suppressor gene mutation to become homozygous.
  2. Recessive mutations in tumour suppressor genes are found in many familial cancers.
  3. Patients with such diseases possess a tendency to have an increased probability to develop cancer in particular tissues.
