Chordae tendinae are the bands of fibrous tissue (tendons) present in the heart that are attached on one end to tricuspid and bicuspid valves of the heart and on the other end to the papillary muscles. Their main function is to anchor the valves and prevent their movement back into the atria during the contraction of ventricles.
