Open in App
Solution

Bacteria are a group of prokaryotic organisms belonging to the kingdom Monera.

They are characterised by peptidoglycan wall, a compact but naked DNA with attached mesosome and reserve food made of glycogen and fat.

There are many kinds of bacteria. They can be either harmful as they cause many diseases or useful as they help in different processes.

Function of bacteria:

  1. The bacterium found in the digestive system disintegrates nutrients into complex sugars usable by the body.
  2. They help in the prevention of diseases by inhabiting areas that pathogenic bacteria want to attach themselves to. Hence some bacteria safeguard us by launching attacks on pathogens.
