Gibberellins: Gibberellins are weakly acidic growth hormones in plants having gibbane ring structure.

Functions of Gibberelins:

  1. Gibberellins stimulate germination of seeds.
  2. Gibberellins are used for inducing parthenocarpy They increase in length of axis to get more fruits in grapes and tomato.
  3. GA and GA, are used to increase the fruit size in apple. Increase in yield of sugar in sugarcane due to internodal elongation.
  4. Increase a-amylase and protease activity to improve the maiting in barley.
  5. Reduce the dormancy period of seeds.
  6. Cause elongation of internodes make dwarf into tall plants.
  7. Cause bolting and flowering which is rapid stem elongation and flowering. In the long day plants it is used to replace vernalization.
