Interstitial cells present in the testes of males are also called Leydig cells.
They are present in the interstitial spaces outside the seminiferous tubules.
Function of Interstitial cells:
Interstitial cells (Leydig cells) synthesize and secrete androgens (testicular hormones).
The pituitary gland secretes luteinizing hormone (LH), which stimulates interstitial cells (Leydig cells) to secrete androgens like testosterone hormone.
Testosterone is the most important androgen in men and it is needed for normal reproductive and sexual function.
Testosterone is important for the physical changes that happen during male puberty, such as the development of the penis and testes.
