Question

What is the main reason for stability of colloidal solution?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The stability of a colloidal system is defined by the particles which remain suspended in equilibrium in the solution.
  2. The reason for the stability of the colloidal solutions is the presence of charges which are equivalent and the same.
  3. Due to these same charges, the repulsion occurs between particles and prevents them to combine and form large particles when come closer.
  4. To prevent the attraction of opposite charges colloidal particles form a sheath of charge on themselves. Thus forms a electric double layer.
