What is the main use of river lift system?

Open in App
Solution

River lift system

  1. To supplement irrigation operations, river lift systems collect water directly from rivers.
  2. River lift systems do not rely on the natural flow of water from rivers through canals due to gravity; instead, they use pumps and direct fetching. In regions where canal flow is uneven due to limited reservoir outflow, the river lift system can be used.

The main use of the river lift system:

  1. Lift irrigation systems must fulfill two basic tasks: first, they must use pumps or other ways to carry water from the water supply to the main delivery chamber, which is placed at the highest point in the command area.
  2. Second, they must deliver the water to the benefiting farmer's fields in an appropriate and timely manner. As a result, the gravity flow of water through canals or rivers is not available or employed in the Lift Irrigation method.

Benefits of Lift Irrigation:

  1. Lift irrigation allowed for larger irrigation levels.
  2. Land acquisition is a less serious issue.
  3. No major water loss has occurred.
  4. The utilization of manpower is decreasing.
