Question

What is the meaning of quantisation of electric charge?

Open in App
Solution

Quantisation of electric charge is the property by which any charge lives only in separate collection or bundle of specific minimum charge. Positive and negative charge in the equation is denoted by q. The equation is shown below:
q = n e
n can have both negative as well as positive values. E.g. 1, 2, 3……. and -1,-2,-3,-4……..
e in the above equation means charge having a value of 1.6 × 1019. The charge present on both the protons and electrons is denoted by e but the difference is that the charge on an electron is (-e) and on the proton is (+e).
