Solution
The term refining is defined as reducing or removing the impurities present in a substance.
Extracted metals are usually impure in nature, and is called crude metal.
The method of the refining process is chosen according to the physical and chemical properties of the metal.
There are several methods employed for the refining process, and they are as follows: Distillation, Electrolysis, Zone refining, Polling, etc.
Distillation process is done to remove the liquid impure metal in the form of vapor and pure metal is distilled out.
Poling process of refining metals is used to remove the impurities of its own oxides.
Zone refining technique is used to remove the impurities of the metals, as the impurities are easily soluble in the molten state.
Electrolysis method may involve the use of electrodes in which impure metal is made as anode and pure metal is made as a cathode.
