  • The charge of the metal is 3+ is written in Roman numerals and is placed in parentheses to indicate that the element is a transition metal.
  • Iron can have a 2+ charge or a 3+ charge.
  • The anion (nonmetal) is chlorine. Therefore, chlorine becomes chloride.
  • Thus, the name of the ionic compound becomes Iron (III) Chloride.
