Solution

a) The outer covering of the eyeball consists of a relatively tough, white layer called the sclera (or white of the eye). Near the front of the eye, in the area protected by the eyelids, the sclera is covered by a thin, transparent membrane (conjunctiva), which runs to the edge of the cornea.

b) Ciliary body: the part of the eye that connects the choroid to the iris.

Retina: a light-sensitive layer that lines the interior of the eye. It is composed of light-sensitive cells known as rods and cones. The human eye contains about 125 million rods, which are necessary for seeing in dim light.
