The correct answer is (B):

Explanation of the correct answer:

Dimethylglyoximato :

  1. Dimethylglyoximato is also known as DMG and is an anionic ligand as a charge on it is -1.
  2. It is actually a ligand whose denticity is defined as the number of lone pairs of electrons which can further be donated by a ligand to the central metal ion.
  3. In this compound there is a presence of two Nitrogen atoms which are the donors, and the Oxygen which is present there in DMG is basically involved in the Hydrogen bonding .
  4. As Oxygen is the atom which is involved in Hydrogen bonding because of which Oxygen atom can not be a donor.
  5. So, as there are two donor atoms (NandN) in dimethylglyoximato, so it is a bidentate ligand.
  6. Hence, the number of donor atoms in dimethylglyoximato is 2
  7. Structure for dimethylglyoximato is:

Therefore, the correct answer is (B) 2.
