  1. Overloading of an electric circuit means the flow of a large amount of current in a circuit beyond its permissible current rating.
  2. It generally occurs by connecting a number of high-rating appliances in a given socket/circuit.
  3. Overloading may also occur due to the accidental hike in supply voltage.
  4. Due to overloading, the current in the circuit increases even beyond the current rating of the circuit.
  5. Due to it, excessive heat is produced and the appliance may get damaged or burnt out.
  6. The overloading can be prevented by using an electric fuse.
