Solution

The physical state of water:

Based on the physical nature of matter, matter exists in three states i.e., solid, liquid and gas. In the same manner, water can exists as ice (solid-state), liquid water (liquid-state) and water vapour (gaseous state).

  1. Water exists in different states at different temperatures.
  2. It exists in the solid-state (ice) at or below 0°C.
  3. It exists in the liquid state (liquid water) in the temperature range of 0°C-100°C.
  4. It exists in the gaseous state (water vapour) at the temperature above100°C.
  5. Therefore, the physical state of water at 50°C is a liquid state (liquid water).
