Chromosomes are chromatin threads that have been highly compressed. Each chromosome has a condensed or constricted region called the centromere.
2. Depending on the position of centromere, chromosomes acquire different shapes. Accordingly, chromosomes have been classified into the following four types.
Telocentric chromosome: When the centromere is terminal or located at the tip of the chromosome. These are I-shaped.
Metacentric chromosome: When the centromere is located at mid of the chromosome. These are V shaped.
