Solution

  1. Chromosomes are chromatin threads that have been highly compressed. Each chromosome has a condensed or constricted region called the centromere.

2. Depending on the position of centromere, chromosomes acquire different shapes. Accordingly, chromosomes have been classified into the following four types.

  1. Telocentric chromosome: When the centromere is terminal or located at the tip of the chromosome. These are I-shaped.
  2. Metacentric chromosome: When the centromere is located at mid of the chromosome. These are V shaped.
