Question

What is the probability of getting a multiple of 3 when a die is tossed?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Calculate the total number of outcomes

When we roll a die, we obtain the following results:

1,2,3,4,5,6

For that, the total number of outcomes =n(S)=6

Step 2: Calculate the favorable outcomes

Let R be the event of getting a multiple of 3.

R=3,6

Number of favorable outcomes of the event R=nR=2

Step 3:Calculate the probability

Formula of probability: P(R)=NumberoffavorableoutcomesTotalnumberofoutcomes

Then the probability is PR=nRnS=26=13.

Hence, the probability of getting a multiple of 3 when a die is thrown is 13.
