Dear student
Anaerobic respiration occur in absence of oxygen when the efficiency of oxidation is low as less amount of energy is released during the process.
Anaerobic respiration takes place in the muscles of the human body.
The by-product of anerobic respiration is LACTIC ACID.
When we do lot of physical exercise, say running, our body requires much more energy than produced through aerobic respiration. Hence in the muscles anaerobic respiration begins to take place to meet the demand of energy. Lactic acid gets accumulate thereby causing fatigue and pain in muscles.
Note:- About 2 ATP molecules are formed in anaerobic respiration. The end products are ethanol(yeast) or lactic acid(muscles).
