Open in App
Solution

Carbon Fixation:

  1. It is a process, in which inorganic carbon is converted into organic compounds during photosynthesis by ATP and NADPH in plants.
  2. Organic compounds are used as storage as energy in the form of glycogen and also can be used in various cellular components and biomolecules.
  3. It involves adding carbon dioxide to carbohydrates and energy is produced in this step.
  4. So the purpose of carbon fixation is to convert free carbon in the atmosphere to metabolically active organic compounds.
  5. The conversion of CO2 to carbohydrates is called the Calvin cycle or C3 cycle.
  6. The plants that undergo the Calvin cycle for carbon fixation are known as C3 plants.
