Colloids

  • These are type of solution which contains dispersed phase and dispersion medium.
  • The particles which is present in a medium is called the dispersed phase whereas the medium in which particles are present is called dispersion medium.
  • Depending upon the states of the dispersed phase and dispersion medium different types of colloids are present (emulsion, sol etc.,)
  • The colloidal particles have size range 1-1000 nm and when light passed through a colloidal solution the path of light is visible. the phenomenon is called Tyndall effect
  • Examples: milk, fog
