For two pairs of contrasting characters in F2 of a dihybrid cross, the ratio comes out to be 9:3:3:1. But for one pair of contrasting character (like seed shape can be round or wrinkled) the ratio becomes 3:1.
This can be explained as :
From the dihybrid cross ratio, total number of plants having round seeds = 9+3 = 12
Total number of plants having wrinkled seeds = 3+1 = 4
Thus, round:wrinkled = 12:4 = 3:1
