What is the reason of water scarcity even though nearly 75 percent of earth's crust is filled with water?
The reason for water scarcity even though nearly 75 percent of the earth's crust is filled with water is as follows:
(i) About 97 percent of water present on the earth's crust is saline i.e. cannot be used for drinking and other purposes.
(ii) The percentage of freshwater is only about 3 percent.
(iii) If we consider the distribution of freshwater 68.7 percent is the water that is not accessible i.e. present in ice caps, polar caps, and glaciers.
(iv) Rest of the water is surface water (0.3 percent) and groundwater(30.1 percent).
(v) Surface water and underground water are also under threat due to water pollution, urbanization, and overpopulation.
