Question

What is the relation between frequency, wavelength and wave velocity of a wave?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Wavelength is the distance traveled by the wave in one time period, i.e., in T second.
  2. Wavelength = Wave velocity x Time period, λ=v×T
  3. We know that the frequency and time period are inversely proportional to each other, frequencyn=1TimeperiodT
  4. λ=v×1nλ=vnv=nλ
  5. Therefore, Wave velocity ν = Frequency n x wavelength λ
