Solution

Respiration:

  1. The respiratory system is the network of organs and tissues that help you breathe.
  2. It includes our airways, lungs and blood vessels.
  3. The muscles that power our lungs are also part of the respiratory system.
  4. These parts work together to move oxygen throughout the body and clean out waste gases like carbon dioxide.

Respiratory organs:

  1. Respiratory organs include the nose, trachea, lungs, pharynx, alveoli, diaphragm, and the intercostal muscles
  2. Lungs receive the oxygen in breathing in and move to the blood, this process is known as inhalation or inspiration.
  3. Lungs send the waste gas, carbon dioxide in breathing out and moves from blood, this process is known as exhalation or expiration.
  4. So, respiration involves both inspiration and expiration, these two mechanisms are done by the lungs.
  5. Hence, the lungs are a major respiratory organ in which alveoli exchange gases.
