A probe is a single-stranded sequence of DNA or RNA used to search for its complementary sequence in a sample genome.
Role of DNA Probe:
If a researcher is trying to locate a specific gene in the target entity, the probe for the library can be the corresponding gene from the related entity.
Probes are typically the fragment of a gene as a small fragment is easy to manipulate.
This probe DNA can be synthesized and labeled either with chemiluminescence or radioactivity.
Then it is subject to heat to make it single-stranded and blended with the library DNA on the nylon filters.
The probe then hybridizes with the corresponding sequences in the library.
