Role of feathers
Feathers are a part of the exoskeleton in birds which is unique to them. They perform many functions like:
* Regulation of body temperature by insulating the body and preventing any loss of heat from the body. This helps the birds to bear low temperatures at higher altitudes.
* Helping in flight as birds fly using wings and feathers.
* Conferring light body weight which helps in flight.
* Repelling water.
* Nest building.
* Protection to the internal organs of birds.
* Attracting the member of the opposite sex.
