  • The protein molecule that is present in the red blood cell and comprises globulin proteins and heme group is known as hemoglobin.
  • The heme group contains an iron atom in its structure. The red color of the blood is due to the presence of this structure.

Role of Hemoglobin:

  • The hemoglobin protein can attach to the oxygen molecule in the lungs. It results in an oxyhemoglobin molecule.
  • It allows the protein to move the oxygen from the lungs to different body locations through the bloodstream.
