What is the role of KOH in the experiment to show that CO2 is necessary for photosynthesis?

Open in App
Solution

Experiment :

  1. KOH is the chemical formula for potassium hydroxide.
  2. KOH absorbs the available CO2 in the flask and thus, the plant cannot carry out photosynthesis and is not able to synthesize starch.
  3. Later, the iodine test gives a negative result proving that no starch has been synthesized.
  4. Therefore, CO2 is necessary for photosynthesis.
