Dear student, Lungs contain Alveoli which are connected to blood capillaries. When we breathe in, we inhale oxygen and this goes to the lungs and into the alveoli. In the alveoli, there is a higher concentration of oxygen and the blood contains lower concentration of oxygen. Thus the oxygen diffuses into the blood. The respiration process requires this oxygen. It utilises this oxygen and converts it to carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide is given to the blood. This deoxygenated blood which contains carbon dioxide, reaches the alveoli and carbon dioxide diffuses into the alveoli from the blood due to higher concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood than in the alveoli.
